The
original mission of the Montauk Artists'
Association was to bring art and art education
to the Montauk area residents and visitors.
In 1998 the Association acquired the Montauk
Railroad Station, which the Long Island
Railroad had stopped using about 28 years
before. Our good fortune included four
years of concentrated fund raising in order
to pay for our extensive reconstruction.
The Town of East Hampton annual grant awards
and the generous donations from our members
allowed us to renovate the interior of
the building from the floor of the basement
up.
In 2003, we finished the second floor. Our first season
of art classes was offered and was a success. Adult
courses in pastel, watercolor, acrylic and oil painting,
life drawing, photography and children's art keep
our Depot studios buzzing from
June into October. We have motivated students
and first rate instructors.
